Former Chelsea man Roberto di Matteo

Roberto di Matteo is ready to take his first steps to becoming a top flight manager after throwing his name into contention for the MK Dons job.

In the hunt: Roberto di Matteo in for the MK Dons job

The former Chelsea midfielder has been taking his coaching badges with Spurs assistant Gus Poyet. MK Dons chairman Peter Winkelman says he has had 40 applicants to replace Paul Ince.

Names include Ian Holloway, Nigel Adkins, Steve Cotterill and Peter Reid.
